Camping at Lost Maples State Park 3/16/09

OK, I am way way way late on posting these pictures, but better late than never right. We went camping at Lost Maples State Park down and west of San Antonio (about a 6-7 hour drive) for part of Spring Break, only the weather was more like winter and not spring break. It was freezing the first couple of days and in the 30's. UGH and burr! It took forever to get there the first day everyone else arrived the day before. But since I couldn't take the day off work we opted to leave the next day. We arrived, set up the tent and the girls jumped right into climbing the trees. The next morning it was very cloudy and cold so we went for a drive. Saw lots of wildlife and the little town close by. Stopped at the dollar store and bought a baseball kit and bubbles for all the kids. Once we got back to camp it had warmed up quite a bit and the sun came out. We went on a hike and the kids decided to get wet in the FREEZING stream. It was so fun to watch them play. The trail was amazing so beautiful with mountains all around. I'm glad we went, but next time hope to stay at least a few more days for the time it took to drive there.

We are here

Right to the tree for some climbing

Driving the first morning to stay warm:

Lots of wildlife to see:

I thought these trees were so cool. They had all the moss growing on them.

Back for an afterenoon hike with the kids:

and we found lots of photo opportunities

Hiking:

Silly boy!

Well, she can't smile for every picture. This is the real Abby. LOL

Daddy stayed back at camp. The boys are going to go on a longer hike when we get back with the kids.

Such a beautiful place.
We just had to test out the water. The girls took off their pants so they could have something dry to put on after. We still had to walk back and the water was freezing. They were very brave. I guess we should have brought bathing suits after all, but not exactly something you pack when it is going to be 30 degrees.

We drove out to get firewood and got so close to this deer that was feeding next to the store. I couldn't belive how close we got.

Samores with Daddy

Alexis decided she was going to try and learn to ride her bike without training wheels. She started out doing really great, but then when we got on the road she would get scared and stop pedaling and fall over. she wanted me to run with her the whole time. Well there is only so much running I could do and only so much crying I could take, so we ended up putting the training wheels back on. We will try again at the next campout.

Um, Rodney, I think you are a little big for that bike.

the lighting was so good in this picture. It really lit up her eyes

The view from our campsite

Back the next day to get wet again

this time we kept our pants on and took off our shirts. LOL

That is one brave girl to go that deep in that freezing water.

Day two at the creek:

This was so funny. Owen and Alexis were standing together and I said, "Owen, give Alexis a kiss on the cheek" and Owens eyes got real big with a huge smile on his face, and he was like "Yeah Yeah!" and Alexis was like "EWE, No Way, Gross" LOL Hopefully she will say that for at least the next 10 years.

Dinner by the fire.
Playing while we cook breakfast

Playing baseball. Alexis was actually really good. I told her she should try playing softball, but she is dead set on playing soccer this fall. So we will wait for that.

All the kids eatting:

and back home we go.... Can't wait for our next camping trip! Hopefully it won't be too hot that time.
